Ogun NNPP fires Abiodun as bridge collapses less than one year after construction

The Ogun State Chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reacted to the sudden collapse of the Adigbe-Opako Bridge in Abeokuta over the weekend.

Ottagistreel earlier reported that the Adigbe-Opako Bridge was washed awayby a heavy rain, less than one year after it was constructed by the Governor Dapo Abiodun government.

Governor Abiodun, had in 2019 promised commuters on the road that his administration would do a thorough job in fixing the bridge, saying flooding would become a thing of the past on the Adigbe-Obada road.

However, the project did not live up to expectations as it was badly affected by the rain.

Reacting, the NNPP in Ogun State said the collapse of the bridge was a clear testimony of the alleged “fraudulent” and “substandard” road constructions of Gov Abiodun’s administration.

Speaking in an interview with Ottagistreel, the Chairman of the NNPP in Ogun, Comrade Olaposi Oginni, said Gov Abiodun needs to apologise to the people of the State over what he described as his “incompetence and lackadaisical attitude to governance.”

Oginni said his party has been vindicated that Abiodun’s administration is not qualified to access the N250billion loan recently approved by the Ogun State House of Assembly.

According to him, the present government of Abiodun is allegedly putting the infrastructural development of the state in “reverse gear”.

While indicating interest in knowing how much was spent on the Adigbe-Opako Bridge, Oginni told Ogun residents to continue praying to God for a better and new governor come 2023.

He said: “This is the clear testimony of the fraudulent and substandard road constructions of Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

“I think Gov. Abiodun needed to apologise to the good people of Ogun State for his incompetence and lackadaisical attitude to Governance.

“Are we not vindicated that Gov. Abiodun’s administration is not qualified to access the outrageous N250 billion loan?

“It’s unfortunate that this administration is putting the infrastructural development of Ogun State in Reverse Gear.

“Ogun people are to continue praying to God for a better and new Governor come 2023. We are to endure this cluelessness for next two and a half years.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun State government said it is looking at the possibility of providing durable drainage by extending the ongoing construction work on the Panseke-Adigbe Road in Abeokuta, to reach the Opako bridge.

This, government said, was in order to put permanent stop to the perennial destruction of the retaining walls on the bridge.

A statement made available to Ottagistreel by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo, said engineers were at the bridge with excavators on Saturday to put washed off materials back in place so that the road may become motorable, pending when drainage reaches the site
