COVID-19 lockdown: Police arrest masquerade for disobeying ban in Ogun state


The police in Ogun state have arrested a masquerade for gathering hundreds of people - The masquerade was said to have vowed to deal with the police if they scattered its followers - The police said that the masquerade was arrested and then warned to be law-abiding before it was later released The police in Ogun state have arrested a masquerade for flouting instructions on public gatherings. People across the world have been advised on social distancing to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. Public gatherings have also been banned so as to avoid a further spread of the deadly infection. However, a masquerade went ahead to disobey the public gathering rule in Ogun state on Sunday, March 29, 2020, Daily Trust reports. It was reported that the masquerade was arrested after it reportedly challenged the policemen and threatened to deal with them if they are bent on scattering his followers. Angry youths burn police station in Katsina over coronavirus arrest of their prayer leader The police spokesman in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that the masquerade was arrested in Abeokuta after a complaint from members of the public was laid against him. Oyeyemi said that the gathering was to celebrate the masquerade festival in the area. According to the policeman, the gathering created fear of a huge spread of coronavirus in the mind of people in the area. He stated that the masquerade was then arrested and taken to the station where he was warned to be law-abiding before he was released to a reliable surety
