The Ogun State Police Command has vowed that anybody moving around the state without a face mask will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the law.

The government had ordered that residents must wear face masks at public places while  cab drivers and motorcycles  riders had been asked  to prune the number of their passengers to three and one respectively.

The command also threatened to impound  any vehicle or motorcycle riders caught carrying more than the required passengers.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, gave the warning in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the command had deployed its officers across the state to arrest violators of the state government directives on social distancing and use of face masks.

The PPRO noted that, some commercial drivers and motorcycle riders were still engaging in overloading their vehicles with passengers.

The police spokesperson however called on people of the state to cooperate with the government in other to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He said, “The Ogun State Police Command has observed with dismay the flagrant disobedience to the government directives which  made it compulsory for everybody to always put on face masks when moving around within the state in order to mitigate the spread of the deadly coronavirus  also known as COVID-19.

“The command also observed that commercial vehicles and motorcycles are still in the habit of overloading their vehicles with passengers thereby disobeying the directive on social/physical distancing which is capable of jeopardizing the efforts of the government in the war against COVID-19 pandemic.”
