Police arrest two during robbery operation in Ogun

Two persons have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for alleged armed robbery in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

The Ogun Police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest to Ottagistreel on Monday.

The suspect, whom Oyeyemi described as “members of a notorious robbery syndicate terrorizing Ogijo” and its environs, were apprehended on Sunday while carrying out a robbery operation.

The suspects, identified as Olaitan Olushola (a.k.a Toshiba) and Oluwajuwon Balogun, were arrested following a distress call received at Ogijo divisional headquarters that the gang was operating at Malatori area of community; dispossessing residents of their valuables at gunpoint, it was learnt.

Upon the distress call, the DPO Ogijo division CSP Muhammed Suleimon Baba quickly led his men to the scene where the two of them were apprehended while others escaped with some of their weapons,” Oyeyemi told Ottagistreel 

According to him, two of their victims, Idowu Kareem and Akinloye Raimi have identified the duo as members of the syndicate who dispossessed them of their phones at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, the case will be transferred to the state CIID on the order of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun.

Ajogun also ordered that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted

Mechanic Allegedly Stabbed To Death By Suspected Cultist In Ogun

 

One Salaudeen Lawal, an automobile mechanic, was on Sunday allegedly stabbed to death by a suspected cultist terrorizing Igbesa in Ogun State.

WITHIN NIGERIA gathered that the suspected cultist is currently at large.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident to newsmen this afternoon.

It was gathered that Lawal was invited by a car owner to help repair his vehicle which had developed a fault along the Road in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government area of Ogun State.

But in the course of his duty, the said cultist, identified as Bobo, was said to have accused him of blocking the road.

According to Oyeyemi, an altercation ensued and “the said Bobo broke a bottle and stabbed the deceased on his hand and cut one of the veins.”

“Distress call was made to the police at Igbesa divisional headquarters and the DPO SP Abayomi Adeniji quickly led his men to the scene and rescued the victim to the hospital where he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment,” it was said.

The suspect, having realized what he did, fled the scene of the incident immediately, our correspondent learnt.

However, the police spokesman informed that one of his accomplices had been arrested, saying the arrested person is helping the police in their investigation.

Meanwhile, the culprit has been declared wanted by the police as the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, launched a manhunt for him.

Mr Babajide Odusolu, former Managing Director, Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) has given insights into how he turned around the affairs of the corporation during his six-year tenure.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday in Lagos, Odusolu who served as OPIC MD from 2013 to 2019 said that he and his team moved the ‘bureaucratic’ corporation to a profit-making, profit-minded company.

According to Odusolu, in the about 29 years that OPIC existed before his appointment, the company had not remitted up to N100 million to the state government account. He added that in the six years that he ran the corporation, the Ogun State Government got over N1.9 billion in remittances from OPIC. “By the time I was sworn in, the maximum OPIC had ever contributed to Government coffers was about 20 million Naira cumulative. For all the over 20 years it was in existence I don’t think it was even up to 100 million. But within a six-year period, with the active support of His Excellency the Governor and his encouragement, OPIC did more than 1.9 billion in remittances to the state government.”

We went from a corporation that had assets that were undermined and undervalued to one that did a turnover of 18.7 billion within a six-year period. OPIC did not get subventions from the government; we had to generate resources to fund all our work. Because the government was averse to commercial loans we also could not borrow, so what we did was to invest and recapitalize all the returns we got from our various projects. Despite doing that, we were still about to deliver returns of N1.9 billion to the state government. During this period, the government-mandated us, in conjunction with other agencies, to turn around the Gateway Mortgage Bank. We were able to turn it around and make it a going concern; all within this six-year period,” he said.

Giving insights into the state of the Corporation before he was appointed, Odusolu said that he met OPIC being run like the usual civil service establishment, with grossly undervalued assets, demoralized staff, bad offices and broken down equipment. He also added that there were serious security challenges in OPIC’s estate in Agbara where land grabbers had taken over a lot of the estate’s land while many clients were in gross default of their repayment obligations.

He added that with marching orders from Gov Ibikunle Amosun, he had to conduct a reorientation of staffers, improve the morale of staff and business language, while also moving at top speed to turn OPIC around. “That meant I had to take people who only understood civil service language and teach them to understand the language of business, all while moving at top speed to restructure the entire organization.

We carried out a forensic audit and found out that over 500 hectares of our land had been basically grabbed by people who had not paid for them. Working with the state government, we had to conduct massive security sweep in Agbara and restore sanity. It was so bad then that industrialists had abandoned their factories and flour mills while trucks were broken down everywhere; there was nothing going on. We had to go in there, restructure and do everything to make it work. We were able to between 2013 and 2015 we were able to deliver over 15 km of road networks in Agbara, recover all the lands that had been stolen, encourage and attract new industries.”

“After we succeeded in doing that in Agbara, we moved to Abeokuta the state capital; it was still a civil service town. There was nothing that appealed to industries to stay there. What we used to have was that most companies would come to Abeokuta for meetings and then leave for Lagos. We were able to deliver Orange Valley Estate, which was the first gated community in the whole of Ogun State. There we delivered sixty-six (66)  semi-detached duplexes between 2013 to 2014.”

The former OPIC MD added that about four multi-million dollar industries came in due to the intervention of his administration “After we finished, based on our track record, we were able to get a partnership with Family Homes Fund, which was a Federal Government-backed initiative to build affordable houses in Nigeria. OPIC won a contract to build 1020 housing units at New Makun City. That is still ongoing as we speak”

Odusolu also pointed out that the track record of OPIC spoke for it as the corporation was invited to handle one contract after another. He said that OPIC handled construction works at Isheri, an area which he should have been the Lekki of Ogun state but was then largely undervalued and ill-maintained. He said that OPIC built 188 housing units in Isheri before moving on to build VIP Housing in Abeokuta which metamorphosed into the Mitros Residences Hotel shortly after its construction.

The former oil and gas worker as well as legal practitioner said that at the end of his tenure, the corporation which was barely recognized had a total asset of about N60 billion. “Until we came, OPIC just took land without improving it and sold it as it was. By the time we were leaving office in May 2019, if you valued the total assets of OPIC, it was a 50 to 60 billion naira corporation. We had lands we had recovered and fenced and were available to developers. We also had the Mitros Residences which is a massive investment and a very profitable one for the state government,” he said

End SARS: Ogun ex-Governor, Gbenga Daniel declares support for protesters

Former Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State on Friday declared his support for Nigerian youths who have been on the streets to call for an end to police brutality and operations of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force, OTTAGISTREEL  reports.

Gbenga Daniel, in a statement on his social media handles, said “#ENDSARS is the subjective condition for an impending revolution on the journey towards restructuring of our country’s political system.”

The former Governor said he shared in the pains of the Nigerian youth, who he said have been victims of unemployment, poor education and poor economy for long.

“I share in the pains of Nigerian youth who for long have been victims of social deprivations such as limited opportunities, unemployment, poor economy and education,” he noted.

As leaders, Daniel opined that, “we need to listen clearly to them; we must match our words and with the appropriate actions,” saying “#EndPolicebrutality.”

OTTAGISTREEL reports that the relaunched Abeokuta protest has continued to gather momentum with celebrities and aides of Gov Dapo Abiodun joining the protesters.

While they barricade the Okemosan-Kuto road as well as the Panseke-Ibara road, some aides of Gov Abiodun joined to identify with the protesters, who have since remained law-abiding.

Earlier today the Senior Special Assistant to Gov Abiodun, Emmanuel Ojo; Consultant to the Governor on Media, Ogunpola Damilola and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths, Lamide Lawal, were all at the NNPC junction, in Abeokuta, venue of the protest.

Celebrities like Kiss Daniel, Yemi Sodimu and others were also at the rally, which has brought about gridlock in the state capital.

OTTAGISTREEL recalls that the End SARS protest has taken a new dimension in Ogun State as residents are already calling for the repair of roads, especially in Ota axis.

Meanwhile, Gov Abiodun said he is “assuring #EndSARS protesters in Ogun State of their right to peaceful protest, protection, and our identification with their demands.

“Mo ti sọ̀rọ̀ sókè. #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutality,” Abiodun added.

End SARS: Protest escalates, takes another dimension in Ogun [PHOTOS]

The End SARS campaign appears to have taken a new shape in Ogun State as residents of Ota, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area have called on Governor Dapo Abiodun, Senators and the Federal Government to fix their roads.

Ota is the industrial capital of Ogun State, playing host to many industries and businesses.

But, the people of the area have for years decried the deplorable state of roads in the entire Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, especially the road leading Ota to Agbara, Lagos, Abeokuta and Idiroko border.

Residents of the area took advantage of the End SARS protest, calling on government to rehabilitate their roads.

On Friday, they took to the street with placards bearing various inscriptions like: “#FixOtaroads; ”Ota Feeds Nigeria, ”Who is our Senator, ”Dapo do something” and others.

The protesters blocked the roads connecting Lagos to Abeokuta and other parts of the state, as they made known their demands.

APM takes action against Ogun House of Reps member, Mobolorunduro for defecting to APC

The Allied People’s Movement has asked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to declare vacant the seat of the lawmaker representing Yewa South and Ipokia Federal Constituency, Hon. Kolawole Lawal Mobolorunduro, if he fails to return to the party within seven days.

The Ogun lawmaker, fondly addressed as KLM, was reported to have announced his defection from the APM on the floor of the House on Tuesday.

He was said to have defected to his former political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

But the leaders of the APM said they received the news of his defection with shock, having won his election under the APM.

The party leaders, in a statement jointly signed by the National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle; the National Secretary, Ayodele Oyadeyi Adebayo and National Vice Chairman, Adeniyi Odunlami, on Thursday, said, “assumptions and withdrawal of membership of any association is procedural and political party is no exception.

“As an Honourable member of the law-making organ of this great country Nigeria, it is expected that you uphold in its highest form, the sanctity of the constitution of the vehicle (political party) that provides you the platform to emerge a Member of the House of Representatives and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which legally, you are the custodian.

“Recklessly and in aberration of the constitution of the APM, you tendered a letter of your defection to the leadership of the House of Representatives without any communication with your party (APM), and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, without recourse to due process, and in flagrant disregard for the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, went ahead to announce on floor of the House to the world, the illegality called defection. This is an affront on constitutionality and democracy!” the party alleged.

Making demands, the party leaders maintained that, “In view of the obvious status of both the constitution of APM on whose platform KLM emerged a member of the House of Representatives and the provision of Section 68 subsection (1)G & 2 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Allied People’s Movement reject in totality, the illegality perpetrated by HON. KOLAWOLE LAWAL MOBOLORUNDURO (KLM) and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, HON. FEMI GBAJABIAMILA and therefore demand the following, with immediate effect:

Retraction of the purported announcement of defection KLM by the Speaker, Gbajabiamila or declare the seat vacant.

“Public apology to our great party, the Allied Peoples Movement. The apology must be visible in at least ten (10) National dailies (Print and Electronic).

“A letter of apology to the Allied Peoples Movement from the Speaker, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.”

The party said these actions must be taken within a maximum of seven days from date of the announcement of defection.

Any failure on the part of the speaker of the House of Representatives HON. FEMI GBAJABIAMILA and HON. KOLAWOLE LAWAL MOBOLORUNDURO (KLM) to meet any of these conditions, the APM shall be left with no choice but to approach the Court of Law to seek redress on the obnoxious illegality.

“For the records, The Allied People’s Movement is one of the youngest political parties registered a few months before the 2019 general election. The party is united, stable and healthy at the national, states, local governments and ward levels across Nigeria,” it was said.

THREE ARRESTED FOR GANG RAPING IN OGUN

   Men of Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday 14th of October 2020 arrested three young men who gang raped a 16yr old girl (name withheld).

    The suspects Oluwaseun Damilohun 20yrs, Oriyomi Damilohun 19yrs and Oluwasegun Idowu 18yrs were arrested following a report lodged at Ifo Police station by one Alimi Olasunkanmi an administrative Officer of So-Safe corps who reported that while the victim went to take her bath at Odo-pata stream at Pata Abiodun village in Ifo Local government area at about 10:00am, the three suspects ambushed   her, dragged her forcefully into a nearby bush and took turn to have sex with her.

  Why the devilish act was going on, one of them was video recording the act with a threat that if the victims dare to report them, they will upload it on the internet.

    Upon the report, the DPO Ifo, Csp Adeniyi Adekunle led his detectives to the scene with some So Safe corps members where the suspects were promptly arrested. They have all confessed to the commission of the crime, while the victim has been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

  Meanwhile, the Commissioner of police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun has directed the immediate transfer of the suspects to anti-human trafficking and child labor unit of the State Criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

  The CP also appeal to parents to warn their children and wards to desist from any form of anti social behavior as the Command under his watch will not spare anyone caught in such vices.
